Native American journalist Jenni Monet was arrested on Feb. 1 and charged with “criminal trespassing” and “engaging in a riot” by state authorities. Monet had been embedded within the #NoDAPL protests at Standing Rock since December, and had been covering the protest closely since August. Monet was arrested while she was covering a demonstration in which protesters locked arms.

Buyouts are Changing The New York Times
On May 31, the New York Times announced it would be offering buyouts to its employees in an effort to restructure its newsroom. A buyout is a cash payout offered to employees, with compensation based on a sliding scale of the number of years they spent working for the employer. Those who take the buyout are essentially fired; however, this “firing” is independent of their job performance.

On July 9, Paul Farhi of the Washington Post published an article titled “‘Grandstanding’ or truth teller? CNN’s Acosta walks a fine line with Trump.”. The article discusses the ethics of Twitter, particularly Jim Acosta’s tendency to be openly critical of the White House on this platform. Farhi, who has been covering media for a number of years and full time since 2010, wrote this story because Acosta has been clashing with the White House for a while now, and Farhi feels Acosta has somewhat become the story, he said in an email to MediaFile.
